· SAT GRANT: VIRGINIA CITY WATER AND SEWER IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT
The excavation behind Content’s Corner was mostly concluded on August 10th. A total of 11 test units (and 47 levels) were excavated. The total of 12 830 artifacts were recovered for that excavation alone. The artifact analysis was completed on August 18th. The editing, layout and printing of the catalog forms was completed on August 26th. The illustrations are mostly completed and the writing is underway. This project needs to be completed and reported on by September 30th, which is when the extension on this particular grant expires.
· CABBAGE PATCH PROJECT
The preservation work to remove the sod along the walls of the structures had to be halted after too many artifacts were being exposed. This area will require a more formal testing phase before further preservation efforts can be conducted.
· OPERA HOUSE SEWER REPAIR
The sewer line from the Opera House to the main broke. This line was made of clay pipes, which were disturbed by the root system of nearby trees. The repairs implied laying a new set of pipes from the front of the Opera House to the main near the VC depot. The work was monitored during the excavation and later mapped. This project did not revealed any culturally significant findings. The stratigraphy showed the area appeared to have been filled. The pipe was laid about 3 to 4 feet below surface with the slope (the pipe was slightly deeper towards the main)
· GILBERT BREWERY STABILIZATION PROJECT
Consultation is under way for the stabilization of the Barley Tower. Archaeological monitoring will be implemented once the construction phase begins.
· THE PLAYERS CABINS UTILITIES UP-GRADE
No estimate has been received from Northwestern Energy for the 150 feet of cable required to bury the utility line.
