Friends of Virginia City, Nevada City, and Reeder's Alley:

The first public hearing concerning a National Heritage Area in Madison County was held in Alder on 6th November. There was spirited debate concerning many aspects of this program. County Commissioner Dave Schultz suggested that additional study and input is needed.

The first meeting of the Historic and Cultural Advisory Council was held in Helena on 14th November. Commissioner Mary Oliver represented the Commission. The minutes of the meeting will be noted in future updates. Pls see http://www.his.state.mt.us/shpo/HCadvisoryCouncil.asp for details.

The Montana Main street program will be selecting two pilot communities in the near future. "Montana Main Street Application Workshops. Is the Main Street Four Point Approach a downtown revitalization strategy that's right for your community? Have you heard about the Main Street program but don't have enough information to make an informed decision? Would you like to learn more? This one-day conference has been created for individuals, organizations or communities who would like to discover more about this proven downtown revitalization strategy. Registration Please call Angela Wong at 406-841-2756 or email information to awong@mt.gov to register for workshop in your area. Please register by December 9, 2006."

As part of our regularly scheduled biennial financial audit, on 4th November we appeared in front of the Legislative Audit Committee to answer numerous questions about the Virginia City operation. The Legislative Auditors found two areas that they would like us to change. We accepted the findings and changes are being made.

The Montana Heritage Commission will meet in Helena at the State Capitol on 6th December 2006. The draft agenda for the 52nd meeting of the Commission may be seen at Agenda for MHC Meeting December 6, 2005
