Subject:John Ellingsen Work Record for weeks ending December 27, 2002 and January 3 and 10, 2002 Date: January 14, 2003
Activities of John Ellingsen during the weeks ending December 27, 2002 and January 3 and 10, 2002 included the following:
- I showed a scout crew for Marlboro Clothing advertising around town on December 30. Marlboro Clothing markets high-end cowboy style clothing throughout the world, and took still photographs for their catalog here in 1990-1993, and briefly in 2001. They are looking at shooting here on January 21-25, 2003.
- I met with Ken Sievert, building inspector Charlie Monroe, and the Preservation Crew at the Fairweather Inn on December 31 concerning fire doors and other code modifications.
- I attended a grant-writing workshop sponsored by the VCPA in Virginia City on January 6.
- I met with Randy and Rod concerning ideas for a Railroad Grant on January 7.
- Special padlocks have been keyed for use by the electrical contractors at the Fairweather and Wells Fargo, also some work on locks for the Bonanza Inn.
- A staff meeting was held on January 8.
- Randy, Klaus and I met January 9 concerning planning for Elderhostel and MCC projects next spring.
- Pat Roath, the Preservation Crew, Randy, Klaus and I met in the Fairweather basement and decided on disposition of various items on January 9. Following this meeting, Pat Roath directed moving a number of items in the Wells Fargo to prevent damage during the electrical project. Pat and her crew have removed many sensitive items from the Fairweather to the safety of the Curatorial Center for protection during the wiring project.
- A significant number of tourists walked around Nevada City during the Christmas Season. I inspected Nevada City for any break-ins that may have happened over the Christmas holidays.
- Most of the remaining time during the holiday season was occupied with e-mail, filing, and other normal office work.
- Another note from John: "Just a quick note to let you know the Marlboro photo shoot is going well. They have two motor homes, a "grip truck", and about 20 people, including their own cook. I think they are staying at the El Western in Ennis.Yesterday went well taking pictures of their exclusive clothes hanging in the schoolhouse. Today they are taking pictures of expensive jeans laying on the floor of Criterion Hall."
Former Commissioner Jeff Safford will be interviewed for a 28 minute Montana PBS special on Virginia City. It should air in the next 8 weeks.
Mary Oliver is working on hooking us up with Preservation Magazine. This high quality, high status magazine is published by the National Trust. We hope to have an article about the Preservation Crew.
