Gilbert Brewery

Stabilization of the Cask Room built-up header and doorjamb assembly is complete. All historic masonry has received considerable stabilization treatment to parging, masonry units, and mortar joints. All replacements were performed in-kind, employing local Andesite stone and Natural Hydraulic Lime mortar.

Replaced masonry units and lime mortar, have also received applications of whitewash, to provide additional moisture proofing in compliment to the original process.

The center Storage Room continues to receive stabilization treatment. Masonry joist pockets have been repointed as needed, and shall be whitewashed to historic appearance. A reversible and freestanding plank catwalk has been installed over a portion of the concrete floor to provide greater access to business owners and guests, and minimize impact to historic fabric.

A temporary false wall was erected along the western portion of the malting tower, which is contained within the Brewery "audience area." This wall shall contribute toward the safety of the seasonal business run in the Brewery and its patrons, in addition to providing a safe work environment for continued stabilization measures. The wall is constructed of 2x6 framing sheathed in ¾ “ plywood, and a whitewashed board and batten veneer to compliment surrounding features. The temporary wall is scheduled for removal upon completion of masonry stabilization.

Several leaks in the roof system were located and repaired, in conjunction with further assessment for additional gutter installation.

Crack monitors installed at various locations throughout the Malting Tower were inspected at least once a week, and did not register any significant movement during the month of April.

Analog temperature and humidity gauges installed in the barrel room and audience area were monitored daily and continue to yield a daily average of 45+ degrees and 75+ percent humidity.

Gilbert Brewery Bottling Building

Preservation Team members continue to research historic photos, prepare documentation, and clear away rubble and debris from the collapsed wall in an attempt to determine original layout, historic features, and the utilitarian role of the structure in the brewing process. All research material shall be retained for incorporation into the master HSR for the Brewery Complex.

Kiskadden Barn

The Preservation Team has begun initial assembly of the structural steel system to support the northwest and northeast corners. This shall include reinforced concrete ballast for the northwest masonry corner, to be complimented with a wood veneer for all steel members, which shall minimize the visual impact of the seismic and structural support system.

Prasch Blacksmith Shop

A conditions assessment of the structure continues, which shall be incorporated in to the HSR for the building. The entire interior has been cleaned of all dirt, dust and debris, in preparation of an archaeological assessment. Test pits shall be conducted on all areas identified for excavation prior to any footing and post assembly.
